Intel N100 for Frigate: Real Inference Speeds and Camera Capacity
Measured Frigate detection speeds on Intel N100 mini PCs with OpenVINO, from the official docs and community builds.
The Intel N100 is the most common budget Frigate box: it is in the docs' current favorite mini PC (Beelink EQ13), and it runs object detection on its integrated GPU with OpenVINO, so no separate accelerator is needed. Below are every N100 number we have, with sources.
Known issues and gotchas
- One detector instance only. The docs note the N100 "can only run one detector instance", so you can't add a second OpenVINO detector to scale up (docs).
- Model size matters a lot. Docs list ~15 ms for MobileNetV2 but 30 ms for YOLOv9-s 320. One community user saw YOLO-NAS 256 at ~30 ms in light activity rising to 150 ms under motion (db-159).
- db-135 is a misconfiguration, not a benchmark (~150 ms, flagged in the source thread as a problem report) (db-135).
- Docs capability rating: the Beelink EQ13 "can run object detection on several 1080p cameras with low-medium activity" (docs).
- Beelink EQ13 availability: our price snapshot reports it discontinued in the US; the docs warn the Amazon link may redirect to an alternative, and say the EQ14 has known compatibility issues (a maintainer later clarified in a discussion that this note relates to the Coral, #24381).
- No Coral needed: a Frigate maintainer told an N100 owner worried about their Coral dying that "you don't need anything extra, you can just use the OpenVINO detector" (#24687).
- Frigate 0.18: Intel GPU stats now require Linux kernel 6.5+ on the host (0.18.0 release notes).
