New benchmarks + what changed in Frigate 0.18 for hardware

newsletterAbout a 2-minute read · every claim links to its source

Hi! DetectFPS is a community database of real Frigate NVR hardware benchmarks. Each week: new numbers, hardware-relevant release notes, and price changes. Short, with sources.

1. What 0.18 changed for your hardware

Frigate 0.18.0 shipped Sept 12, 2026. Then 0.18.1 (Oct 13) and 0.18.2 (Oct 15, security fixes) followed. (releases)

  • Intel GPU stats now need Linux kernel 6.5+. Frigate now reads kernel DRM counters instead of intel_gpu_top, so it no longer needs privileged mode or CAP_PERFMON. It also adds Battlemage support. Your reported GPU % may look different even though the workload is the same. (0.18.0 notes)
  • FFmpeg 8 (all images except -rk) has a known issue with go2rtc streams that use hardware-accelerated transcoding. It needs a small go2rtc config change. FFmpeg 5 will be removed in 0.19. (same source)
  • DeGirum detector removed (the company shut down Aug 1, 2026). DeepStack is deprecated and goes away in 0.19. (same source)
  • JinaV2 semantic search on a GPU needs an embeddings reindex because of a CUDA graphs change. (same source)
  • 0.18.1: lower Intel QSV hwaccel CPU use for cameras with high incoming frame rates. (0.18.1)
  • 0.18.2: three security fixes, including viewer-to-RCE paths. Update. (0.18.2)

2. New and notable benchmarks

  • Intel iGPU, 640 vs 320 models: on 0.18.2, a user saw 50.77 ms and 84% iGPU load with YOLOv9s 640. The maintainer's fix was "definitely 320x320". (#24688) The docs' UHD 770 numbers agree: s-320 ~20 ms vs s-640 ~40 ms. (docs)
  • AMD Strix Halo XDNA2 NPU (community sidecar): YOLOv9-s 320 at ~9.0 ms. The docs recommend YOLOv9-C 320 (~14.1 ms). (docs)
  • Intel NPU on a Core Ultra 7 265K: 8.41 ms at ~0.3% detector CPU. (#22421)
  • At scale: one user runs 64 cameras on 4× Hailo-8 with YOLOv9s 320 at 720p/5 fps. Another, with 14 cameras on an i3-1220P + Hailo-8, saw skipped frames under heavy activity. (#24381)

3. Buying notes

  • Hailo-10H (e.g. ASUS UGen300) is not supported. Only Hailo-8/8L work. (#24687)
  • Already have an N100? A maintainer says you don't need a Coral. Use OpenVINO on the iGPU. (same thread)
  • Coral USB: $59.99 MSRP but stock is delayed. Resellers in our snapshot were ~$135–167 (verify before buying).

4. Quick math

Max detections/sec ≈ 1000 ÷ inference ms. At 10 ms, that's ~100/sec. Frigate only runs detection on motion, so that number is a ceiling, not a camera count. (MemryX MX3 is pipelined, so use its "Total FPS" instead.) Try the capacity calculator
